ABOUT US
About Holy Resurrection Monastery
Holy Resurrection Monastery was founded in 2014 as a response to the spiritual hunger for traditional Orthodox monasticism in the Western United States.
When the men’s monastery in Detroit was closed, Fr. Dionisie found himself in California looking to establish a new monastic community. He was put in touch with Mary by Archbishop Nathaniel due to her history of generosity to the church. As it happened, Mary had recently come upon a windfall that allowed her to provide funds that allowed for the purchase of the monastery property. Mary has since remained a principle benefactor and patron to HRM, living onsite and providing support for the community.
As a monastic community under the Romanian Episcopate of the Orthodox Church in America, we live according to the cenobitic tradition (meaning we are part of a monastic community that is 100% grounded in shared prayer, work, and life under the guidance of an abbot). The monastery is led by Abbot Hieromonk Dionisie (Rodila), who, with the help of the monastic brotherhood, guides our community in the ascetical and liturgical life of the Church. Our aim is not only to preserve the richness of the Orthodox tradition but to offer a living witness of it in the contemporary world. With a daily rhythm marked by the hours of prayer, the reading of Scripture, and hospitality to pilgrims, the monastery becomes a place where heaven and earth meet in stillness and joy.

Mission Statement
Holy Resurrection Monastery exists for the sole purpose of glorifying the Risen Christ through a life of ceaseless prayer and ascetic labor. Rooted in the Orthodox Christian tradition and guided by the Holy Church Fathers, we seek to cultivate a life of repentance, silence, and spiritual discipline in the midst of this Fallen World.

Our Vision
Our vision is to be a radiant beacon of Orthodox monasticism in the Western United States and abroad. We strive to be a place where souls longing for an encounter the peace of Christ can come and pray through the beauty of our liturgical worship and the healing power of repentance. We strive to preserve and pass on the fullness of the Orthodox Christian faith and serve as a spiritual refuge for all who seek God with sincerity, hope, and love.
Resurrection of Christ
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central event of the Orthodox Christian Faith. On the third day after His crucifixion, Jesus Christ rose bodily from the dead, conquering death by death and upon those in the tombs, bestowing life. This triumph, confirming His Divinity fulfills the Scriptures and reveals that death is no longer the end but a gateway to eternal life and place in God’s Kingdom. In rising from the dead, Christ restores a fallen humanity and leads them with hope to the promise of resurrection to all who earnestly follow Him. His Resurrection is not merely a past event but a living, unending reality celebrated and experienced in the life of the Church through the daily services, Divine Liturgy, and Paschal feast.
